Using Hootsuite Analytics in the Sales Process

We use Hootsuite to shorten the links to our sales resources. Then, we create a custom report for that specific URL in Hootsuite. As we send out links to PDFs, videos, blog posts or whatever, we’re able to see the number of people that click on it. It’s simple really: make untrackable links trackable, and get a report.

HootSuite vs. Buffer for the Heavyweight Championship

One question that has come up a lot recently from readers is why I use both HootSuite and Buffer. Isn't one better than the other? I hope you won't be too surprised to learn that there actually are good reasons for using both services, and in fact, I use the paid versions of both!

If Social Networks Battled Each Other on ‘Game of Thrones’ [Infographic]

Facebook and Twitter are at the center of an ongoing battle to control the social media landscape. To illustrate its role in bridging the two social networks, HootSuite has re-imagined the two companies as opposing houses on the HBO series “Game of Thrones.” This infographic shows the major attempts of each company to block the other and prevent media from one site from crossing over to the next. The social media winter is coming, HootSuite says, and Google+, LinkedIn, Vine, and Instagram are just a few of the casualties along the way. See more in the visualization below and please note that Twitter is currently working on giving Vine users sharing privileges on Facebook.

The Silver Bullet for Effective Social Media Measurement

There are countless social media measurement platforms out there, but unfortunately none of them will be your silver bullet. Six reasons why.

Former Yammer Exec Dee Anna McPherson Joins HootSuite as VP Marketing

HootSuite has tapped former Yammer executive Dee Anna McPherson to serve as vice president of marketing for the enterprise social media management company.

McPherson was serving the same role at Yammer when the enterprise social network was acquired by Microsoft for $1.2 billion in 2012. During her tenure, the company saw a 300 percent annual growth.

“HootSuite is a great fit for McPherson,” HootSuite stated, “who played a significant role in establishing Enterprise Social Networking as a new category of business software.” The company added that her experience with the freemium business model, which HootSuite also uses, helped sealed the deal.

In the last year, HootSuite’s team has grown from 70 employees to more than 250. The company is currently hiring, and will add up to 100 additional employees in 2013.

“I’m thrilled to join HootSuite during a period of such incredible growth,” McPherson said in a statement. “There’s no position I’d rather be in than heading up a talented team working to cement an innovative product at the head of the pack for enterprise social media management.”

SxSWSxSW Has ‘Gone Hollywood,’ Gossip Press and All (SocialTimes)
With the absence of breakout startups emerging from South by Southwest since Foursquare in 2009, many are wondering whether SxSW has become simply a spring break for the tech set. For instance, SocialTimes received this pitch: “Is South by Southwest the new Spring Break for musicians, filmmakers and techies? If so, the most important mobile technology for SXSW isn’t a festival guide or a new text/photo app, it’s a free service that empowers you to easily obtain and privately share you verified STD status using your phone. TIME/Techland We all know Cory Booker is America’s “Super Mayor,” a reputation cemented by his many acts of social-media influenced kindness. Booker was interviewed by TIME.com assistant managing editor Steven James Snyder during a SXSW panel called “Cory Booker: New Media Politician” on his worst tweet to his ambitions beyond Newark’s mayorship. SocialTimes Rachel Maddow used her platform at SxSW to advance the argument she made in her bestselling book Drift. She categorized the public’s increasing exclusion from the decision to go to war, the point of the book, as innovation. CNET Talk to just about anyone who has been at South by Southwest, and there’s pretty much no doubt what was the biggest news of all: Grumpy Cat. On the one hand a sweet little cat with a facial expression that looks annoyed, and on the other one of the biggest Internet memes of the last year, Grumpy Cat has been the unquestioned biggest star of SXSW, thanks to Mashable, which managed to bring the famous kitty to the world’s most important interactive conference so that tons of her biggest fans could meet her. AllThingsD
Now, I don’t know if you’ve been to South By before, but I have. Imagine a citywide frat party, populated by out-of-town hipsters, local “bros” and Silicon Valley hucksters, all awash in a sea of cheap booze and blaring music. While it may be great for entrepreneurs and musicians looking for a week of hedonism, it’s far from being the ideal place for a dwarf kitten to relax.

Twitter Opens Tweet Archive Access for Users in 12 More Languages (TechCrunch)
Twitter has announced that it would be ramping up its archiving tool to cover people who use the service in 12 non-English languages: Dutch, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Malay, Norwegian, Polish and Spanish — giving the company one more way of engaging with its international audience, now 70 percent of its 200 million-monthly user base. The ability to access your own archive of tweets — which lets you see everything you tweeted and retweeted, and lets you retweet those tweets yet again — was first launched last year, in December, as a service only for those using Twitter in English.
