Millions of online activists, signing some 124 different petitions, helped to end the Boy Scouts of America's century-long ban on gay members.

According to online petition platform Change.org, 1,866,000 signatures were collected on petitions advocating the Boy Scouts change its policy. To celebrate this milestone, Change.org created this infographic, which is a timeline of the advocates work leading up to the milestone decision.

The largest petition, garnering nearly half a million signatures, was started by Karen Andresen, the mother of a 12-year Boy Scouts member who was denied his Eagle Scout badge for being gay. Read more...

Why Internships Are Worth It

Internships are becoming an increasingly popular way to differentiate yourself from the hoi polloi; in fact, interns are 70% more likely to be hired as full-time employees with a company than candidates with no experience at the company.

Not only are interns getting hired more often — but there are companies that offer incredible perks and incentives to attract strong candidates. For example, Amazon interns earn $5,366 as a monthly salary, and Disney interns get free admission to all parks and resorts.

Are You One of Tech’s Most Obnoxious Tweeters? [Infographic]

“With over half a billion users, it’s no surprise that Twitter has its fair share of awful tweeters.”  So purports Sivan Cohen of Conduit in a hilarious infographic that takes a look at some of the most obnoxious tweeters in the tech industry.

The infographic, ‘The Tech Industry’s Most Obnoxious Tweeters’, takes a look at eleven awful tech tweeters, including the know-it-all developer that does all he/she can to appear brilliant, the eventaholic that is constantly tweeting about all the cool events they’re attending, the copycat, the wannabe founder, the tech n00b and more.

Check out the infographic for the full list of obnoxious twitters and let us know what you think.  Are you following any of these stereotypical awful tweeters or, worse yet, are you yourself guilty of any of these obnoxious Twitter behaviors?

5 Benefits of Video Marketing [Infographic]

These days more and more brands are hopping on the video marketing bandwagon, and a new infographic from BuboBox reveals five reasons why these brands are doing the right thing.  With video marketing, BuboBox purports, “people get more engaged, spend more time on your site consuming product information and eventually conversion rate will increase.”

The infographic, called ‘Inside Video Marketing: Social Proof By The Numbers // Part 2’ (Part 1 was released earlier this month), focuses on five points that stress why video marketing is important:

  1. Users are more engaged with content shared by friends, and videos are heavily shared
  2. Consumers that watch a video are more likely to purchase an offering than they are if no video is present
  3. Over 81% of users turn to word-of-mouth when making product decisions and video provides more earned, word-of-mouth attention
  4. Social video campaigns are booming – they generated 2.7 billion views in 2010, up from 820 million in 2009
  5. Video empowers viewers to share – if the content is good, they feel compelled to share it

From Pigeons to Twitter: The Evolution of Communication [Infographic]

Today communication is easier than it’s ever been before.  If we want to get in touch with someone we can pick up the phone, send an email or message on Facebook or send our message in a 140-character tweet.  A fun infographic from Mikogo Online Meetings takes a look back in time to when people relied on courier services, pigeons and even drums for communication.

It’s hard to imagine that our ancestors were reading newspapers “printed” on stone slabs and metal, and relying on smoke signals for messages.  In the 1940, “only 3 people could make calls simultaneously in any one city.  Today over 34,000 phone calls are made in the US every second.”  And that’s not all!  Today, over 100 trillion emails are sent every year and in 2011, 8 trillion text messages were sent.

Check out the full infographic below and let us know what you think.  What’s your favorite means of communication today?

Visual.ly Launches Tool to Turn Your Google Analytics Stats into an Infographic

A new visual reporting tool from Visual.ly can turn insights from Google Analytics into an infographic.

Unlike most of the infographics on Visual.ly, these are meant to be used internally. The results are sent in a private email that webmasters can then forward to the other people in their company. “I always share this info with the entire team so they can see an overview look of what went on in the past week,” said Visual.ly marketing manager Tal Siach.

After users log in with an authorized Google Analytics account, the tool will automatically tally the site’s weekly growth compared to previous weeks. This includes the change in the number of page views, the number of new and returning visitors, how much traffic was directed through social media and organic search results, how much time people spent on the site per visit and how many pages they viewed, and the bounce rate (the number of people who clicked away after seeing one page.) The template changes color based on whether there’s an increase or decrease in the numbers.

Users can also sign up to have these reports delivered weekly.

For the free tool, “We tried to go with something that will be generalized and appeal to a variety of players – including webmasters, bloggers, writers, managers and people in the organization as a whole,” explained Siach, but more customized options may be available in the future through the developer marketplace.

What Does Your Instagram Filter Say About You? [Infographic]

What is your Instagram filter of choice?  It is Earlybird, with its 70s-style charm?  Hefe, with its vibrant colors?  Valencia, with its faded appeal?  Before you decide on a favorite, you may want to take a look at this fun infographic from Marketo and Column Five that will basically make you feel like a douche no matter which Instagram filter you choose.

According to the infographic, What Your Instagram Filter Says About You, “the filter you choose says more about you than the picture you take.”  To that end, in addition to offering up some interesting stats about Instagram’s user base, the infographic profiles “the personalities of the photographers who use the top 10 Instagram filters.”

I always go with Normal (no filter) or Valencia, so according to the infographic I am either a tech-challenged amateur or my photos aren’t capturing anyone’s interest (though I beg to differ!).  Which filter do you use most often and what does the infographic say that says about you?
