What’s New This Week?
Instagram Announces Web Profiles: The popular mobile app Instagram now has web-based profiles. “Your web profile features a selection of your recently shared photographs just above your profile photo and bio, giving others a snapshot of the photos you share on Instagram. In addition, you can follow users, comment and like photos and edit your profile easily and directly from the web.”

Instagram users have a new way to share their photos and interact with their community on Instagram.
Pinterest Rolls Out Secret Boards: Pinterest is rolling out a test that enables anyone to create three secret boards. “You can use secret boards to keep track of holiday gifts, plan a special event or work on a project you aren’t yet ready to share with the rest of the world.”

Foursquare Explore Locations Get Scores: “Now when you search for somewhere to go in Explore, you’ll see a score from 1 to 10 next to the name of a place.”

Foursquare scores are determined by "using the same Foursquare magic that powers Explore."
Foursquare Check-Ins Extend Their Reach: “You can now mention Facebook friends who aren’t on Foursquare in your check-ins.”

"Just tap the add friend icon when you're checking in and scroll down to find them."
Google+ Rolls Out New Community Controls: You now have “more options when reporting bad posts, comments, profiles or photos.” And there are more control options in Google+ Hangouts.

These new community control options will help keep Google+ safe and secure.
Twitter Offers More Transparency in Processing Copyright Reports: Twitter has improved its copyright policy on responding to copyright infringement.

Facebook Updates iOS App With Gifts: “Users in the U.S. who already have access to Facebook Gifts will now be able to browse and send gifts to friends either by visiting a friend’s profile or the Events section of the app.”

Facebook Gifts are now available on the new Facebook app.
Tumblr Releases New iPhone App: This new iPhone app is faster and has a more responsive Tumblr Dashboard.

The new Tumblr iPhone app has new notification previews and a variety of new features.
Here’s an interesting tool worth noting:
CheckinSave: A social commerce app that allows you to check in via all of your favorite social networks at once, and earn points for doing so.

Social Network Launches for Social Media Industry: Social Media Examiner’s Networking Clubs just went public. “It’s a social water cooler for social media marketers,” says Michael Stelzner, CEO of Social Media Examiner. The free network has rich discussion and networking taking place. There are three active clubs: The Facebook Club, the Blogging Club and the Small Business Club.
Online Search Introduces Their Social Media Jobs Salary Guide: This is a “comprehensive look at the best job markets, the most in-demand job titles and salary ranges for social media professionals in the top 20 U.S. cities.”
Tumblr Introduces Highlighted Posts: Tumblr users can pay to have their posts featured on the Tumblr Dashboard.

LinkedIn Announces a More Secure Browsing Experience: “LinkedIn now supports https for your browsing experience. This is currently an ‘opt in’ feature that will be rolled out gradually in the next coming weeks.”

Foursquare Improves “Explore” Search Feature: Foursquare’s Explore on the web features are now available on Explore for iPhone and Android.

The new mobile features include changing your location, filtering your recommendations and photos in your search results.

Facebook Announces Tight Integration of 60 Apps to Timeline, More on the Way: Facebook now allows developers a tighter integration with Facebook’s Timeline. “More than 60 apps are immediately going live, including such favorites as Pinterest, eBay, Foodspotting, Airbnb and Foursquare.”
Web Goes on Strike to Protest SOPA: Last Wednesday, many websites maintained a blackout in protest of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), a bill currently in the U.S. congress. You can find out more about SOPA in the infographic and video below.
