Top Holiday Trends Of 2012, According To Social Media [Infographic]

As the holiday season heats up, holiday chatter on social media is in full effect.  To celebrate, global social media monitoring company Synthesio has compiled a fun infographic revealing the top holiday trends of 2012, based on social media chatter.

The infographic breaks down holiday social media chatter by country, in the US, UK, France and China, taking a look at everything from favorite holiday drinks and foods to the most hated holiday songs, most wanted gifts and more.

Synthesio came up with their data by monitoring chatter across all social media, including Twitter, Facebook, blogs, forums, comments from mainstream, video sharing, photo sharing and more.  A spokesperson told me, “Also, we used our standard Custom Sourcing as we do for each client where we research the web and make sure to include the most important sites for each country—so as an examples, in this case we included for China sites like Renren, Weibo, Sina Forum, etc.”

According to the infographic:

  • Last Christmas is the most hated Christmas song, globally
  • The iPad Mini is the most sought after tablet this holiday season
  • The number one holiday theme discussed online this year is…drumroll please…shopping!
  • The US is responsible for more social media chatter than the UK, France and China combined
