Amazon has expanded its Cloud Drive offerings with a new photo-centric app for iPhone.

Amazon Cloud Drive Photos [iTunes link] for iPhone lets users back-up their entire iPhone photo libraries to Amazon's Cloud Drive. The app is essentially the same as the Android app released last November.

You can choose to back-up your entire camera roll to Cloud Drive or choose specific photos from different albums. There is also an autosave mode that works in a similar fashion to Dropbox's photo backup mode or the auto-upload features in Google+.

Netflix Makes iOS Binge-Viewers Happy With New Update

Netflix has added its slick post-play feature to its iOS apps.

The feature was originally introduced last August for the web player, PS3 and Xbox 360 and it allows users to watch more content automatically without having to tinker with the remote or user interface.

When watching a TV show, the next episode automatically cues up and will start as soon as the current episode ends. This is awesome when binge watching episodes of your favorite series — or of a newly discovered favorite.

For movies, users get a choice of three movie recommendations that can be selected for easy, fast playback. Movies don't start automatically, so you don't have to worry abut getting sucked into something you don't want to watch. Read more...

Yahoo App Update Makes Use of Technology Acquired With Summly

An update of Yahoo’s eponymous news app released today boosts image and video search functionality and incorporates the news-summarizing technology the company obtained in its highly publicized acquisition of the iOS app Summly last month.

The update makes use of using “Summly’s natural-language algorithms and machine learning to deliver quick story summaries,” Marissa Mayer wrote on the company’s blog.

With the update, Yahoo’s eponymous news app also allows the user to identify select which news topics s/he wants to follow. The selections are based on a Yahoo log-in and follow the user across multiple devices.

Yahoo has fine-tuned the design and switched on a “virtually endless newsfeed,” according to the announcement.

The release falls squarely in the purview of the daily mobile habits that Mayer says Yahoo is prioritizing in its efforts to become relevant again.

“Consuming news and information on the go has become the norm — whether waiting for a morning coffee or commuting home from work, content discovery is an insatiable daily habit,” the CEO said.

The update is available for iPhone and iPod Touch.

Find New Beer Buddies with the Pint Club iOS App

Shame on you. You’ve been so busy tagging your friends on Foursquare that you’ve forgotten to acknowledge someone very special in your life: the one that’s been there for you at every pub crawl, every backyard BBQ, and many a long plane ride. Your iPhone? No, silly. Your beer.

Next time, try Pint Club, a newly updated iOS app that helps you find, tag, and share your next beer with all your friends on Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare.

Pint Club has a list of beers from more than 14,000 breweries worldwide that you can tag just like you would a friend or a location. The app also lets you break it down by style, like wheat beer or IPA. (There are 70 to choose from.) You can even use your Foursquare account or the GPS on your phone to tag where you were when you were drinking the beer.

If your beer is not shy, you can take a picture of it and share it with your followers. Pint Club connects to your existing social accounts and you can follow other Pint Club users even if they are not your friends so that you can debate the merits of draft beers versus bottles together and see what other people are drinking that you’re not.

The app can also alert you when your favorite beer is nearby, so you’ll always know which bar to check into first. Guinness also has an app that does this for its own brews, but if you’re not in an Irish beer kind of mood, we definitely recommend Pint Club.

But first, head over to the App Store to download this free app from Chili Technologies LLC for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. Your beer will thank you.
